I guess I should be flattered. Allstate wants me to change careers. Actually, IBM wants me to sign up with Allstate. No, that's not exactly right, either. Rolin Pagunsan, resident of San Jose de Buenavista, Antique (that's in the Phillipines) wants me to sign up as an Allstate agent.
I've been under the weather for a couple of days, so I hadn't logged on to Active Rain.
I had a message that read "Contact from Rolin Pagunsan: Allstate Exclusive Agent Opportunity."
I did what I always do first when someone contacts me through Active Rain. I clicked the search field, entered his name, and looked to see if Rolin is an Active Rain member. He's not. But I found out that he's a blogger with a cool homepage: Rolling Rolls Cafe. That's Rolin on the right and his frog on the left.
I really like this kid. He's the first spammer I haven't turned in to the Active Rain spam police, and I hope he fills the position for Allstate.
From his profile and blog, I learned that Rolin Pagunsan...
- Graduated in 2005 from Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City, Philipines with a BA in Psychology.
- Was accepted as a Sourcing Specialist in IBM Business Services back in September.
- Worked theatre for blueREPERTORY, Ateneo de Manila University's first and only musical theatre organization. He misses it. Bluerep did the very first Asian staging of the hit Disney Channel Movie, and Rollins was in the cast.
- Blogs using his IBM R50E laptop, which he bought used. The kid is frugal.
- Likes the music of the Backstreet Boys, and sings with feeling.
- Was raised right. He appreciates his mom.
- Has a strong sense of self-reliance and independence.
My take on this young man:
Ours is such an interactive world. There are so very many ways to make a living, and outsourcing, whether we like it or not, is a fact of life. I think IBM found a winner.
As a former National Sales Manager for OPEX Corporation, Allstate was my customer. Back then, I hired salespeople who exhibited character and sales talent. Rolin Pagunsan would have made the cut.
He ended his email to me as follows:
If you or someone you know would like additional information regarding the Exclusive Agency opportunity with Allstate, please contact us toll-free at 888-291-9533 ext 57246 or visit our website at www.allstateagent.com.

It's tough to make a living in real estate and lending right now. Someone you know might want to make a switch to insurance.

So, Active Rain member, if you know someone you believe would make a good Allstate Agent, please send them Rollin's way. He has some openings in Phoenix, too. Tell him Mike in Tucson recommended him.
And that's the real estate opinion of this Tucson, Arizona mortgage lender
