One Active Rainer blogged himself into a storm of controversy this morning. I had to comment. And it got me to thinking about expression using the written word.
Literacy is important. This Tirio Indian in Suriname, South America, is able to "blog" because my Dad learned his language, created a grammar, and then taught him to read and write his own language.
He lives 350 miles south of Paramaraibo, Suriname, in the rainforest just north of Brazil. He can read, write, and communicate through the written word.
None of his ancestors ever did this! But he can!
Does the Active Rain community, and the real estate world in general, care if you spell poorly? Or use poor grammar to express yourself? Apparently so!
It's a vain luxury, thinking that success or failure depends on my ability to spell correctly. What matters is the thought I have in my head, and my ability to communicate that thought to my client. I know I've done that effectively when my client is moved to action.
Communication is the key!
Granted, in our highly sophisticated society, someone might look down their nose at me, and the communication of my idea might be diminished by the reader's perception of my ability because of poor grammar or spelling. To which I ask, "So what?"
I've learned that fear of this kind of criticism is what stops most would-be bloggers in their tracks. They never start because the'yre afraid of looking stupid. Who cares?
Give it up. Get started. The important thing is action, not perfection. Express who you are, and what sets you apart in the world of real estate. Close some business while others, in the pursuit of perfection, are getting ready to start the race.
Ready! Set! No, wait...
Ready! Set! Oh, just a minute...
Ready! Set! Maybe if I take just one more real estate class...
Lets GO, GO, GO!
And that's the real estate opinion of this Tucson, Arizona mortgage lender
