"Your past and your future belong solely to you whether you take responsibility for them or not." Roy Williams, the Wizard of Ads

It's the opposite of the entitlement mentality.  It's pure capitalism, and the opposite of socialism.  It's the philosophy of personal responsibility.  You'll see it encapsulated in the bumper sticker: If it's to be, it's up to me.

I love the convenience of Google!  The closer we get to this election, the more I find myself googling the founding fathers of the United States of America, and reading what they envisioned for their experiment in democracy.  It wasn't an experiment in social sameness.  That came later, in the twentieth century.  The dove is not the symbol of our nation, nor is our national flag a white rectangle wafting in the breeze.

Will International Events Trump a Stabilizing Economy in the Election?

10-26-08_Bloomberg_EuropeBanks aren't lending the $700 Billion from the Fed.  They're using it to buy up other banks, so mortgage rates won't move much in the next week approaching the election.

The biggest stabilizing effect comes from the price of oil, down tonight in the futures market to less than $64.  Who would have believed this a month ago?

The US Treasury's 10 year bond closed on Friday with a yield of 3.65%.  (Yield goes lower when demand is high.)

Compare that with the yields in the Bloomberg chart on the left.  What does that mean?

It means that worldwide, the US Treasury 10 Year Bond is more attractive to investors than that of the UK, Germany, France or Italy, and that's good for your buyer's purchasing power in the real estate market across the United States.

My prediction is that world events will be the "October surprise" as the election approaches.
