When it comes to pizza, not all pies are equal. We moved to Tucson from the Long Beach Island area of New Jersey back in 1998. Jersey knows Italian!
One of the transitions that gave us the most agita when we moved to Tucson in 1998 was trying to find pizza like we had back in Jersey.
Either the sauce was too sweet or the crust was too soggy. None of the chains (IMHO) have ever been able to consistently give us the quality we were used to having.
Ken Rubinstein says that's because of three things:
- the ovens,
- the cheese and
- the dough.
Like anything else worth having, quality is the key to consistent excellence. When I asked Ken about his pizza, he was low key in his response. "My pizza's not too bad." I had to laugh!
Not too bad?! Ken's pizza's the best I've had outside of the Tri State area. (That would be NJ, Philadelphia and NY)
You can buy a slice, just like back in New Jersey. A slice and 20 oz soda will set you back $5.50, and one slice is served on a pizza tray the size of your steering wheel.
My Darlin' and I drove across town today just for pizza. Was it worth it? Just look at that smile!
