Tucson By Choice!: Saturday Night Walk In The Desert

Saturday Night Walk In The Desert

Evening hike in the Tucson Mountains

Evening sky with the moon overhead

My Darlin's under the weather, and I've been spending most of the weekend taking care of her.

She's doing better than she had been, and last night, she suggested I take a hike.  :)

(She's got an ulterior motive.  I'll blog about it some time this week.  I've got a grid on the fridge to keep track of my walking schedule.  My goal is to walk two miles a day.  I bought my Darlin' a Pandora's bracelet, and for every 100 miles I walk, she gets a charm for the bracelet.  The idea came from our friend Olivia at GlenMar ranch a couple of weeks ago, and it gives me a goal to track.  This was my first week, and Ginny's got 15 miles crossed off on the chart on the fridge.)

Prickly pear is in blossom in the photo above, and at the top left, that's the fruit of the Chain Cholla.

The evening sky with the moon overhead was peaceful, don't you think?

For those of you who know Ginny and have emailed us through Active Rain, please know how much we appreciate your prayers in her behalf!

Thanks so much!  She came down with the flu last week, and then on Thursday an X-ray found pneumonia.  We appreciate your prayers!

Thanks for being the first to comment.  I appreciate the encouragement!

Oh my goodness.

For a week, I've been whining and fretting about a dang cold.  Granted it was the mother of all colds, but nothing as serious as your dear wife.

Please give her my wishes for a speedy recovery and MAKE HER REST.

Hi Mike, I appreciate your note this morning, and am sorry to hear 'your Darlin' has been sick. Congrats on the great walking inspiration. I love the idea! I get on the treadmill when I'm on the phone and get MILES done easily!

You're a good guy, Mike, taking care of your sweetie like that, AND walking to give her jewelry!  :-)

Nice shot of some beautiful colored clouds and the moon.

Thanks for the encouragement, and for the well-wishes for Ginny.

Thanks.  That moon shot is one of my favorites this week.

We try to avoid getting stuck with those thorns.  Someone told me that everything in the desert bites, sticks or stings.  We love it anyhow.

Thanks, my friend!  It's good to see you.

Good morning to you, too!  Thanks for the prayers.

It's true.  We absolutely love where we are blessed to live.

Didn't those cactus blossoms catch the sun just right?!

That first picture is one of my Send Out Cards photos this week.  Thanks for commenting.

Ginny loved the flowers!  Thanks.  Her main job right now is RESTING!  I'm glad to hear your cold didn't develop into something worse.

It may have been; they wouldn't test for it last week.  That's happening this afternoon.  Thanks for commenting.

Mike - Great photos - as usual.  Please tell Ginny that I'm praying she feels better soon.  Must have been all that cow poking in Oklahoma.  :)  Take care of your darlin'.  She's obviously a treasure.

She told you to take a hike & you got her a bracelet?  Why doesn't that stuff happen to me?  Good luck on your walking.  Great pics too.

Mike, I did not know that Ginny is ill.    Was the trip to Oklahoma hard on her?    I'm praying for the two of you right now as I type.

Rest, rest. And antibiotics. Even when she feels better, more rest. And good that you're going walking. Two miles a day has kept me going and took 15 pounds off my peak weight of 7 years ago. Keep it up!

Hi Mike - what a wonderful team you and Ginny make...so encouraging and supportive. I pray she is feeling better, and is on her way to feeling 100%. How organized your plan is, and you both come away with a reward in the end - Ginny with the charms, you with feeling good. Bravo! Your moon shot is wonderful. I can't wait for the prickly pears between the our driveway and our neighbors bloom. That will mean it's full on boating season!

Mike - As usual, very spectacular pictures from your camera.  Back in the 1970s, I had a Prickly Pear Cactus in my back yard.  It was near the size of the one you have pictured.  I will never forget "harvesting" the pears, peeling them, and making preserves. . .Because of the thorns, I only did it once:-)

Hi Mike,

Spectacular photos. I've been spending a little more time in the desert in the area of SoCal myself. I've been amazed at so many things in bloom. Each time I'm there I feel like a kid in a candy store, I love it.

Hope you Ginny is feeling better soon!

Cirrus in bloom

Thanks so much for your comments and prayers.  Ginny is improving slowly.  Ann, your suggestion of "rest, rest, and more rest" is just the ticket.  The cirrus cactus is in bloom, and we wanted to share it with you.

Hope Ginny is feeling better.

The Opuntia is one of my favorite cactus plants. I love the big platters, big enough for a good helping of pancakes. They grow naturally all around here, too.

Hope Ginny is better soon, I had pnemonia earlier in the year and am still not all the way well, it's hard to kick, but with your care and the prayers she will be better soon.  Love the pics!
