"Can blogging help my business?" That's the question I get when I talk to lenders, real estate agents and others about the Active Rain Real Estate Network.
I asked myself the same question in July of 2007, when I found this blogging platform in an Inman News article.
I knew almost nothing about the internet two years ago. I knew less about Google. But I started blogging, and I've stuck with it.
Within months, the question "Can blogging help my business?" turned into an affirmative statement: Blogging CAN help my business!
Active Rain makes my phone ring.
Today was a case in point.
Notes:
Buyer sold home in Chicago, retiring to AZ. Daughter attending the University of Arizona. He's driving her down to Tucson, needs a mortgage for an Arizona home. No agent, needs referral. Phone, address, email. FUP: thank you card SOC, email contact info, refer to Chuck Willman.
I considered that a good day, but it wasn't over.
My Darlin' and I were snuggled on the couch watching TV at 7:30 when my cellphone rang. "I found you on the internet, and I have a question. Can you tell me anything about Vail, Arizona?" By the end of our conversation, I had taken the following notes:
Buyer moving to Tucson from North Dakota. Hates the cold. Flying in on Thursday night. 2 interviews with local school system and hospital maintenance for supervisor position. 11 years experience with same employer in ND. Phone, home address in ND, email. Asked for referral to an agent I trust. Referred to Kevin Wood, Realty Execs. FUP: thank you card SOC, email contact info, call Kevin.
So... Will blogging help your business? Today it helped not only mine, and also the two agents to whom I was able to pass an unexpected referral.
If you have questions about how Active Rain can help your business, call me!

Excellent! Congratulations on two new (potential) clients! Once they arrive and get to meet you I'm absolutely positive that you will be able to help them and they will be lifelong referral source. Way to go, Mike!
Carol,
Thanks for being the first to comment. I'm not waiting for them to come to Tucson. I send them to www.MikeInTucson.com and tell them that they can get a glimpse of my mug, and while they're there, click on Mike's Blog. You can learn a lot about a person by reading what they write. Transparency begins here!

Wow! Busy day. Thanks for another cool ActiveRain success story!
P.S. Please tell Chuck to come back and post once in a while. :)
Bruce,
It was great talking with you yesterday; thanks for stopping by again. I wish you much success!
Mike in Tucson
I keep hearing how it can help the business and I have learned so much from AR that I am ready to practicie what I have learned. Thanks for the testimonals.
Mike,
Well, you gotta' love that! Of course this network is working. Good for you.
I closed on a sale last week where the buyer found me on the internet while reading a blog on REO's in my area.
The article had a link back to my website. I'm definitely a strong supporter that "There's Power in Blogging".
Congratulations on your leads today Mike!
It can most definitely help your business...but it takes some dedication and a fair amount of work. Kudos to you for sticking with it and making it a success!
You know I'll agree. Blogging is the ultimate in networking. I've made many, many referrals to experienced real estate blogging buddies. Of course, all of my buyer and seller business comes from the Internet by way of my web sites and blogging on AR.
We too have obtained good results. Localisms attract prospective buyers. ActiveRain is an important part of our marketing efforts.
Great testament to what it can and will do for you if you work it. I have seen an increase of buyers and sellers since I started.
Another great testament to ActiveRain blogging and blogging in general.
woot
Blogging is just another part of lead generation. . .it pays! & AR IS THE BEST NETWORK OUT THERE!
Terrific! I hope that Active Rain can help my business as well. I know it will take consistency and time, but I am looking forward to it. Thank you.
Mike,
A consistence and positive image is essential and your a master of the positive image!
Bill
We asked that same question about 1 1/2 years ago and now it is so difficult to remember how we ever survived in this business with out it.
Blogging if done consistently, correctly and with a plan can help in lots of ways. Heck a well written, link loaded, image rich, video embedded complete blog on this subject or that property is helpful and one that the broker himself/herself can save the link and insert in emails, their website as a resource. So many benefits can be had. Thanks for your post!
Now THAT describes a good Sunday!
Mike -
Thanks for sharing your story. It's a powerful testament to the awesomeness of Active Rain!!!
ARand the exposure it brings has a strong place in this business. After being introduced to AR I was able to work some of it's magic for my own business. Congrats on the business potential you got.
That's great news! I'm glad to hear that you are able to use AR to grow your business and those that you partner with. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for sharing and great positive post. Wish you much luck with your new clients.
Ho Mike;
Great news and congratulations, I agree with you, blogging is positive thing for our business. Thank You For The Post!
Mike - Nice testimonial. You certainly can learn a great deal about someone by what they write and a picture of your smiling mug doesn't hurt either. Thanks for sharing your success story. I am sure there are many more on the horizon.

You da man!! BLogging does WORK. This AR Network Works. To all reading this....Mike in Tuscon sent little ole me (In Gainesville Florida) a client/propsect last year. Go ahead and spread yourself and your business around....it WORKS!

Well, let me just say that to date I have writen 14 blogs since joining AR a few monthes ago. I've had a handfull of responses which I appreciate very much and continue to look forward to. But the real benefit I've derived so far is the action I'm pulling in on optimization. Since I started blogging our company, ON THE LEVEL, Manufactured Home specialists has started popping up all over the place and we're getting lots of calls and email action. We pop up first with almost any tag we place on a google search engine. In fact many times we dominate the page with multiple hits. It's not just the direct response to your blogs that count. It's where it places you on the Internet a and we've even rolled over into multiple pages sometimes as many as seven pages. Blogging with the right selection of tags really does work.
Oops! Forgot to hit the subscribe button. There I just did it.
John & Janis,
I just added you two as associates under Manufactured Home Specialists. We don't have enough people associated with that part of our industry here on Active Rain, IMHO. Welcome!
Jerry,
Thanks, and WELCOME to Active Rain! Post your first entry to your blog, and we'll come say Welcome over there!
Christine,
Thanks so much for the testimonial! It's a pleasure to be able to refer out to professionals such as yourself.

Mike,
I believe and preach we are who we associate with! I try to surround myself with great people. Starting with Brenda!
I'm not alone take a look above.
Bill
That's not just good blogging, but good networking in your community! Congratulations!
100% right Mike...I've gotten several of the same calls & they're a lot of fun! I've also used AR to refer quite a few buyers to Realtors.
Best,
Dan
Hi Mike: I have seen blogging help my business. It really works.
:)
Matt,
Pretty cool, isn't it?!
Dan,
Thanks for commenting; I wish you much success today!

Bill,
Thanks, my friend!

Mike, I received an email from our RE/MAX network asking if people got business from social networking - replied that I had indeed and did you want the examples now. Well her reply was 'Are you sure it was from blogging'. Well yes and do you want me to send the testimonials/clients names now. Well no, wait for us to contact you. I could tell in her email that she didn't believe me! We'll see if I get interviewed and I WILL follow up with her (naysayer).
It does help in a number of ways. Not only does it get you new business, it helps to keep in touch with past clients and provides resources for current clients.
Thanks for the information, Mike. I've only recently started blogging but just last week a guy found me on the internet via my AR profile. Too bad he thought I could SELL him a stage, instead of providing him with a Staging service for his home. Ha! Oh well, better luck next time.
Beth
Great article, Mike. You will do awesome as an ambassador.
Aren't you glad you TRIED it? So many are missing out simply because of fear of trying something new. Congratulations in your EARNED success!
Mike...I love to read about Active Rain success stories. Congratulations - and I agree, Blogging does work.
Nice post. Posts like this help a person keep the faith. Nice job on being an ambassador.
Mike - It's the best platform ever for learning the best of internet marketing. I can't tell you how much business is tied to active rain, but it's been helpful.
Thanks Mike. That is encouraging. I've been blogging for a couple years on the equity markets. Lately I started doing so in real estate too. Haven't any success stories yet, but just started looking into active rain.Guess this answers my questions :)
Go to Google and type in "Can blogging help my business"
Doug
Mike, the Internet gives great exposure and when that leads to connection and possibly business all the better. Great story!!
Mike: I could replace the names and tell a story very close to yours... Yes indeed, blogging works. I've had about 10 such calls in the past couple of months because of Active Rain and referred business to lenders and realtors in the Pacific Northwest....
I have tried to keep up blogging, but have not yet closed a deal yet. I have had some referrals but nothing has panned out yet
Mike--Blogging works well for those who know how to do it...Not to hard to learn but takes time to find your voice and work at it. When you do, the benefits are ten-fold, literally. Glad to see you found a new home at Sunstreet...I like the name, fits with your AZ sunset photos!
That's great for you!
Have a good time with them as you go through the process.
Hard work pays off usually.
Patricia Aulson/portsmouth nh real estate
Congratulations! That is incredible. I am relatively new to AR, but I do love it. Your blog gives me inspiration to keep on blogging. thanks again for sharing.
www.charlottelakewyliehomes.com http://gmoore.wilkinsonandassociates.com/Blogging has definitely helped our business also. Congrats on getting 2 referrals in one day! ActiveRain is an excellent resource :)
Hi Mike!
Newsletter and featured post huh? Good for you and good for business!
Blogging is also good for making friends with people you many never have met without the internet connection. You're a keeper ;-)
Mike, that is the kind of story we want to hear, I have also gotten noticed by a seller who lives out of my area but owns a property in my town, he found me via one of my blogs about short sales, people are out there looking on the Internet and if you are not there... well, you just sort of out of the bigger picture.
Antonio
LOL...
I went to Google and punched in woot. I keep seeing that word and felt clueless or really blond :)
Woot: Hooray. Yippee. WooHoo :)
TLW...ROAR!
Hey Mike: Fantastic. Let's here it for those good days.
Glad things are coming in the door -- and at the new biz address .... all the best.
Nothing like spreading the wealth....awesome! awesome!
Sheila,
Amen to that!
Carolin,
You and Bob have been an inspiration since day one, and I appreciate you both!
Carrie & Kathy,
Hear, hear!!
TLW,
I had no idea either, so I emailed Missy, and she was kind enough to educate me. Woot! Woot!
Antonio,
Great profile photo of the two of you! The internet is the place people search first.
Karen,
You're so right about that. Most of my AR friends are people I will never meet, and yet we come to know, trust, and refer business to each other. Thanks for the pat on the back!
Kevin & Monica,
It certainly is; see you on your blog.
Ginger,
Blog on! It really does work! (You might want to go easy on those active links, tho.)
Patricia,
I like how you snuck that word "usually" in there. Someone said that sales is the easiest hard work, and the hardest easy work there is. Blogging can be like that too.
I didn't think of that, but you're right about Sunstreet & sunsets!
Thanks. This one's for you.
Tatyana,
It took me from July to October to land my first referral on Active Rain, and it grew from there. Don't give up! See you on your blog.
Rene,
So cool!
Gary,
Thanks, my friend.
Doug,
It's the first thing I did this morning at 4:00 a.m. Thanks!!
Joel,
I'll see you on your blog. Please call me if I can help you.
Larry,
It certainly is! I never would have made your acquaintance otherwise!
Mike,
Thanks for commenting! Keep the faith!
Rebecca,
What do they say? "Nothing succeeds like success!"
Elayna,
What if I hadn't? Look at all I would have missed, and I would never have known it was possible. Thank you!
Loreena,
I subscribe to your blog, and you've been an inspiration to me many a time!
Beth,
What?! Stagers don't sell stages? :(
Gene,
It was a stroke of genius for AR to put our profile photos up there with our comments. It's good to know you!
Lyn,
Isn't it odd that our human nature will discount something because it's not familiar? I wonder what she does for a living.
Mike in Tucson
I'm glad TLW checked out what WOOT was as I was wondering also. I guess I've missed that one in my blogging experience so far. Congrats to you and the agents you were able to refer to.
Great to hear these successes, Mike. Did you know Chuck and Kevin before blogging, or did you 'meet' them in the Rain?
Mike,
Your blog today should put on notice anyone who doubts AR's power. It requires work to get noticed here, but the rewards can indeed be nice.
Active Rain has made me findable, and it's taught me a ton to boot.
Blogging has been amazing for my business.
I think blogging is a great way for people to get to know you and your personality. I bet you're glad that you tried it! Congratulations on your great results:)
Thanks for sharing Mike. We are here to help others and learn from each other...the Referrals are just the "cherry on top."
