Tucson By Choice!: Photo of the Week: The Roadrunner & The Lizard

Photo of the Week: The Roadrunner & The Lizard

Roadrunner with lizard graces a Tucson, AZ mailbox

In the cartoons on Saturday morning, it's the Coyote who chases the Roadrunner, but ends up hungry.  "Meep! Meep!"  In the desert southwest that's my back yard, I often see both the coyote and the roadrunner within yards of each other, both intent on a meal, but neither hunting the other.

The roadrunner, in its hunt for prey, will often "put up" a rabbit in which it has no interest.  The coyote has learned this, and uses that knowledge to his benefit.

Aren't you glad you don't subsist on snakes, lizards, scorpions and spiders?  No matter what "lizard" you're hunting for this weekend, I wish you success!

Great picture Mike.  In my neighborhood coyotes and roadrunner seem to coexist ok.  Roadrunners are fun to watch and they help control the snake population.

I love the photo Mike!  We have coyote here but not the roadrunner.  As Rudyard Kipling would say: Good Hunting!  John

That's a beautiful southwestern sculpture. I used to see a few roadrunners in Henderson, but now it's just one tract home after another.

Laura,

It's a sculpture sitting on top of a brick pedestal which holds the mailbox.  Thanks for stopping by.

Anna,

I will be there, and I look forward to meeting you!

That's a great piece of art work. Where did you find it? I do think the coyote should have been allowed to win once in a while.

Michael,

It's a mailbox post in La Reserve off Oracle, north of Pusch Ridge Academy.  I loved Wile E. Coyote!

This is a great picture, Mike!  Love that statue!  I've heard that lizards and bugs can be quite a delicacy in some countries.  But, rest assured, I'm not traveling to those places!  :)

Silvia,

You, too!

Carol,

We used to boil & eat lizards as a kid in South America.  It's a white meat.

Tony & Darcy,

Thanks for stopping by to comment.

I see roadrunners every once in a while. They are fascinating birds.

Unfortunately, the only time I've ever seen a coyote is when a rancher kills it and hangs it on the fence. :(

Cheers,

Robin
