If your business model is transactional, this post won't help you today. Look for another.
Towards the end of my day yesterday, I was thinking about my SOI. Sphere of Influence is the single most powerful referral source available. But it's unavailable when I'm focused on myself. That was my "aha!" late Monday afternoon as I drove past the office of Alan Gooding, my friend and real estate attorney.
I wondered aloud (I do that when no one else is in my car) how many real estate attorneys in Arizona had taken advantage of the Google juice available on Active Rain.
Alan's a busy guy, partly because I've given him a lot of referrals. So what? Suddenly, I was on a mission. Making a left across traffic, I pointed the Explorer towards the Gooding Law Firm on First Avenue in Tucson. The receptionist looked up as I walked in, smiled sweetly (she must be all of 18) and asked how she could help.
"I'm looking for Alan Gooding, if he's available. My name is Mike Jones, and you might want to tell him that I don't have an appointment, and this visit won't make him any money."
He saw me anyhow. I told him about Active Rain, and specifically about the lead I shared with you in yesterday's blog post. "Alan," I said, "I think there might be an opportunity for you as an attorney to expand your Sphere of Influence by blogging on Active Rain." May I sign you up?
What was he going to say? I was already in front of his computer, clicking away. Ten minutes later, Alan Gooding, Esq. was number four in the State of Arizona for Real Estate Attorneys on Active Rain. By the end of the day today, look for him to be number One if he sets up his profile and posts a blog. It won't take much; the others don't blog.
In the world of Real Estate, your SOI will expand or contract today. To make it expand, find someone in your SOI, and make it your mission to help that person expand theirs.
And that's the real estate opinion of this Tucson, Arizona mortgage lender, Mike in Tucson.
Edit: He's blogging! Click this link and go encourage Alan by leaving a welcoming comment!

I too would love to see more attorneys. But knowing our own personal and business attorneys, they'd probably consider it beneath them <s>. They do tend to be rather old school.
On the other hand did you ever read DirtLaw Blog (excuse the outbound link, but I think you'll like her). This is a young real estate attorney providing a lot of excellent information on her blog. Someone ought to try inviting her. You can be my guest there, Mike.
Mike, excellent advice as usual!
Our referral sources will love the biz...but probably hate us for taking away their free time since AR is soooooo addicting but beneficial.
Missy, I'll do my part to make it happen. Alan is a fantastic real estate and trust attorney, even if he is originally from Tennessee. LOL
Linda, was that pun intended? Advocate? You're the best!
Cyndee, I'll have to see who's who in the world of Active Rain real estate attorneydom. Thanks for commenting.
Cheryl, you're a fascinating person. I just had to say that. What does the little symbol "<s>" stand for? (Guess I'm old school too.) I really appreciate the link back to DirtLaw Blog. Link back any time; you're an AR Educator!
Bill, do you think attorneys could blog on AR and bill for it in tenths of an hour? They wouldn't hat us so much. There's a joke there somewhere.
Marlene, it's the truth, isn't it? My mother taught me a Sunday School song when I was little. "Jesus, and Others, and You. What a wonderful way to spell JOY." It stuck!

Amber, I do that sometimes. And sometimes it's good! How's bayou?

You are so right! It's great to see you're so inspired to do these things. Best of luck.

Good morning, Georgina and Ernie!
Thanks for commenting; I'm off to see your blogs!
