I know you'll find it hard to believe. Snow does fall in Tucson! December is our "little monsoon" season, and rain has been falling in the lower elevations for the past two days, while snow has been falling in the mountains.
My office is in the neighborhood of Tucson called Winterhaven. 26 miles up the Catalina highway is the tiny hamlet of Summerhaven. It's been snowing there all week. For you ski buffs, please note that Summerhaven is home to the southerly-most ski lift in North America!
Winter rains make for fantastic spring color in the desert, and I'm expecting to see banks of wildflowers like this come March.

Good morning Mike,
I do like the photos very nich sir. Do I understand you that it is snowing in Summerhaven and sorta warm in Winterhaven? Interesting.
Merry Christmas to you and the family my friend.
Ah, the wildflowers. Love the wildflowers. I painted the below after a trip to Yellowstone and once we got above the tree line in Montana, the wildflowers were spectacular. It was always the end of June and Early July.
It is stange to see it look so cold in your area!
I also just wanted to wish you a wonderful holiday!
Merry Christmas!

Tucson is calling me...Hope to see you in a few weeks.

What happens when you get 43 inches of snow then it rains. We are about to find out. Nice Photo of the mountains Happy Holidays
Mike, I just stopped by to say Merry Christmas. You are right we don't think of Tuscon and snow. My parents are in town from Mesa and they have been following the Mesa temperatures and they have been glad they are here where it is 70 degrees.
One of the great things about living in Tucson is that snow falls so seldom that it is always a wonderful surprise when it shows up! Nice photo Mike.
Kent,
Thanks. Merry Christmas!
Marchel,
Warm is good! Merry Christmas!

Wow. Those mountains are breathtaking. I can't imagine living around a view like that all the time. I can certainly understand why people would want to own property there.
Well, I missed this. I never made it past the food the Tucson Mts. while I was there. For some reason I missed seeing the mountains when I drove in. I wonder why? It was pretty windy on my sister's side, how bout your place?
BTW, That is one of the things I miss about living there.
Doreen,
Have you ever been to the Desert Museum? We live on that side of the Tucson Mountains. It's only windy when a front is moving in.
The photo is by my office, and those mountains are the Santa Catalina Mountains on the north side of Tucson.
Lisa,
Mountains surround Tucson on all four sides. Come visit sometime!

Trust me, I know which Mountains those are. That is the main thing I miss about living in Tucson. Seeing those mountains right there, every day. I still miss that.
Did I mention I miss those mountains. :(
I was so busy thinking about my mountains I forgot to mention the shot of the poppies is really beautiful. The angle is perfect. I like the way they roll like hills.
Doreen,
Thanks for visiting and getting a third of your daily comment points right here with Mike in Tucson (LOL)
