Come
visit
Tucson!
December is when the oranges begin to ripen in my back yard. The little monsoon begins at the same time, and the desert begins to look lush again. We've had 1 1/4 inches of rain since the first of the month. This male Cardinal has taken up residence with his mate somewhere in the arroyo behind our home, and he enters the yard by coming through the orange tree. He's headed for the bird feeder, but not until he has looked around to make sure the coast is clear.

Mike,
I had no idea you could grow oranges in Tucson...!!! WOW, To pick my own orange juice!!! Thanks, Fran
Mike- I had no idea you had anything but cacti and scorpions and rattlers there! Let alone anything green:)
Oranges in Arizona...well what do you know?
That cardinal is spectacular, Mike - got any grapefruit or lime trees in your orchard? My buddy gets incredible Ruby Reds every year out by his pool...maybe I can get him to share!
Mike,
I was about to say something nice about the pictures, but Brenda says to heck with them have him send the oranges!
Bill
Mike,
It is the first time I see a cardinal in an orange tree with plenty of ripe oranges in winter. Lots of vibrant colors! Thanks for sharing.
Mike, good catch. Our oranges are ready too....it's amazing how we can enjoy fresh oranges in December and January and smell the orange blossoms in - say, April? Can't remember, but they're wonderful. ;-)
Mike - that reminds me when I lived in Florida. I love the smell of orange blossoms - my favorite smell by far! Ok, this is another reason why I should come visit :) ~Rita
Good morning Mike, Cool post. Totally forgot about orange trees, especially since I have not seen one since I left FL many moons ago. I did not realize that they grew oranges in your section of TX...
Happy New Year
Michael,
I live in Arizona. AZ. ARIZONA! LOL
Rita,
Come on down!
Teri,
The smell of the orange blossoms is so fragrant!
Gerry,
You're welcome. Thanks for commenting.
Bill,
Brenda's got a point. Come visit!
Kent,
We have a Ruby Red Grapefruit tree that's loaded. The Key Lime is potted, and gave fruit all summer.
Fran,
Will wonders never cease!
Katerina,
And you've been reading my blog for how long?! LOL
Fran the title man,
I guess Tucson needs more advertising. One of the main cross streets here is Orange Grove, so named for the fruit trees. Thanks for being the first to comment.

When I think of oranges I think California and Florida. All we have to offer is snow right now.
Awesome colors sir, the cardinal adds the right touch to the photo. My friend all I have to offer in the form of color is a dull brown mixed with a little green in the grass, the mowing kind!
I find the oranges from your area, AZ, TX, etc. to be great eating. Not quite as juicy as FL, but more to my liking becaue I like to eat them, not squeeze them.
Great photos.
I sooooo, want to live in Arizona...your pictures give me warm thoughts this winter!
Happy Holidays!
Shawn
HI Mike...we have lemons too but they are small this year:)

Mike, love the pictures! Makes me a little "homesick" for AZ. I lived in Scottsdale for 7 years and we had lemon, lime and orange and tangerine trees in our backyard. Yummmm, they were good.
You show off! If I had known you had those oranges over there, I would have come over that mountain. LOL! Very cool shots. The one looks like he sees you and is wondering what the heck you are doing.
Doreen,
It's the same bird, and when I clicked the first photo, he turned and looked toward the sound of the camera.
Judi,
So when are you coming back to visit? We don't have a riverwalk, but you won't miss it. Tucson's a happening place.

Mike - Your own backyard cardinal AND orange trees! How wonderful! I have backyard deer and weeds...I think I need to add to my Things To Do List to start off the New Year!
See he WAS wondering what the heck you were doing!
Doreen,
I guess so! LOL
Karen,
It's why we have snowbirds who winter over. The human kind, that is. Happy New Year!
