Tucson By Choice!: Living Well In Hard Times: The Joy of Color

Living Well In Hard Times: The Joy of Color

Geraniums by our front door

There is a joy to be had in color.  This pot of geraniums, basking in the morning sun, sits just inside our front door.  It welcomes friends to our home in the secluded  community of Tucson Estates II, on the western flank of the Tucson Mountains.

Color is free, or, in this case, almost free.

I think this plant set us back $1.96 when we bought it at Home Depot last spring.  As it grew, we kept re-potting it, and now it's nearly three feet across.

It's in difficult financial times that I appreciate more intensely the joys that life brings.  Joy is not associated with the things money buys, except perhaps for a moment.

No.  Joy comes spontaneously when we see the beauty which surrounds us in the daily living of our lives.

Enjoy our geraniums.

And one last thought before I go back to bed for another two hours:  the serendipitous relationships that come from blogging in the Rain bring me joy.

You bring me joy.

Really!

Yes, yes, yes.

I bought a tray of begonias late in the season last summer and never got them in the groun.  Probably too busy on ActiveRain.

So, I put them in a window in my sunroom and they're still going.  Amazing.

Mike,

Thanks for the Red!

"I think this plant set us back $1.96 when we bought it at Home Depot last spring.  As it grew, we kept re-potting it, and now it's nearly three feet across."  Sorta, like smilling, a very small investment if worked can bring back a lot of joy.

Bill,

I like the analogy to smiling.  A tiny bit of effort, a tremendous return.

Evelyn,

I don't live in Active Rain time; I went back to bed at 4:07 a.m.

Michael,

We love geraniums!

Susie,

Good morning!  I'm glad to bring you joy.  Thanks for saying so.

Lenn,

Thanks for being the first to comment.  I'll bet your geraniums are beautiful!

Mike,

I often wonder, what's in a flower that tells it what it should look like...provided you keep it watered!!! Thanks,   Fran

Mike,
You're simply amazing. You have really inspired me to keep people first in business. I'm not ashamed to admit that I try to immulate so many of your qualities (kindness, gentleness, patience, not proud or boastful... hey, I've heard this from somewhere). Thanks for all that you do, and for God's sake - KEEP DOING IT!!!

Beautiful!  Red geraniums are my favorites, but I have a black thumb when it comes to them.  No matter how many blooms they have when I buy them, they soon have none!

Great photo - and accompanying words, Mike. It's nice to see a spot of color in January. Things are bleak here in PA right now.

Mike - Geraniums will always, always remind me of my grandmother, that wonderful lady. She has always had them around. This is in Finland. ~Rita

Mike, a colourless world would too bleak and uninspiring!  A great reminder at to how colours add so much to life and I think that your geraniums are a perfect anaology to what we are all facing in todays real estate market.  Take care and happy blogging!
