We spent the day in the Phoenix area, visiting family. It's a hike from Tucson all the way northwest to Thunderbird at the 101, so we began the trek home at about four in the afternoon, trying to get home before dark.
When we hit Picacho Peak, though, I turned off of Interstate 10 to visit the Rooster Cogburn Ostrich farm.
You wouldn't put ostriches and saguaros together if you were writing about Arizona, but here they are! I just like seeing the big birds, even if they are playing second fiddle to the Cardinals on the day before the superbowl.
This one (ostrich, not cardinal) was interested in the tumbling tumbleweed that had blown up against the fence, and I thought you might like to see him too.

Hi Mike,
Your post brought back a sweet memory of a trip I took with Mom a number of years ago to look at investment properties in Tucson. We drove from Laguna Niguel to Tempe and stopped at Monte's Steakhouse for Filet Mignon, then on our way to Tucson, we stopped at the Ostrich Farm. It was a fun little stop along the way. I bought a bundle of Ostrich feathers for some hats that I was making. The farm was a fun little break from driving.
Hope is all well with uou!

Mike, I love the ostrich pictures! Some of my shoes are made of ostrich... isn't that awful!
Hey, Mike. That is awesome. We have a small ostrich farm on the island and when you drive by the birds chase your car. It is too funny. Thanks for sharing, Jim
Some cousins of mine thought that they would get rich raising ostriches. They had contracts lined up with a company making feather dusters, another for the meat, Tony Lama for the hide...and then the price of breeding pairs dropped like a hot rock. When restrictions were lifted on importing them and the price went down, the profit died.
Rooster Cogburn's is a neat place...now if only my cousins would have had freeway access....LOL
Kent,
So what did they do with the birds?
Jim,
Time to blog about that! :)
Susie,
Your shoes match my wallet. :)

Great Pics Mike. I remember those trips from Sierra Vista to Phoenix and seeing the signs and the farm from I10. I never did make it over to visit, I guess bad memories from a trip to Texas one year and some crazy Emu's. LOL
Bill,
It sounds like there's an EMU blog in there, just waiting to get out!

It's quite possible Mike. A memorty I try not to think about too much. maybe I will find a little more humor in it if I write it down.
I see that place when I drive to Tucson and have not stopped to visit. Someday...
Doreen,
Life's full of new adventures just waiting in the wings.
Bill,
You've piqued my memory! Let me know if it gets to the blog stage, and I'll come comment.
