Barren desert surrounds me. Standing a thousand feet above the desert floor, I peer down from my rocky ledge. Behind me is a sheer granite wall. In front, a thousand foot drop to the desert floor.
Other than that cactus there, it seems that life has shriveled up and baked away in the hot sun. Danger surrounds me. One slip, and I'm done for.
It puts me in mind of our business situation in this market. I have good news, though. There's life in front of us, down on that desert floor, but we just can't see it. It's impossible to focus on something at that distance. We need to get closer, to climb down and walk those arroyos.
That's where the living things flourish. It's where the water flows close to the surface. It's where the danger melts away. It's where opportunity lives.

Life
is
down
there
in
the
details.
It would be nice to float off the edge and get there effortlessly. That's not going to happen, though.
It'll take work, but it will be worth it!

Mike,
I've never seen a desert, let alone one in bloom...!!! That must be an indescribable thing to behold...!!! Thanks, Fran
Mike, that's quite an impressive photo!! Made me nervous just looking at it. There's nothing quite as spectacular as a desert in bloom. Loving the desert was quite a surprise for me.
Mike, your right we might have to take a different path to get to the opportunity. No shortcuts. The desert amazes me that in the middle of absolutely nothing - there's that gorgeous flower!
I love walking on the flat paths in Red Rock with a granddaughter. Nothing to see in one direction but beautiful, open nothingness. Oh the desert. Another ahhhh. This particular path crosses what's left of old ocean beds, now smooth and shiny.
Yes as you say, life IS down there in the details!
Just like Winter Spring is a time of renewal and I'd like to cast my vote for a new market in 2009.
One never knows, in the midst of all aridy, a beautiful flower appears. That's so true in life as well, just as we hit a bottom, something wonderful appears out of nowhere! Believe it, if you don't believe, you don't receive.

Very inspiring analogy. Kind of like not seeing the forest for the trees. We will survive. We always do. :)
magic as usual, thanks Mike. Inspiring and beautiful all wrapped into one great post.
Very true, sometimes it hard to see past what appears to be the obvious, but that is what we have to do in order to see what's ahead. Thanks Mike
Just beautiful. I believe!
Rita,
It is, isn't it?!

Patricia,
I believe you're right!
Terry,
I have another closing tomorrow. Things are moving again in Tucson.
Kate,
You make writing fun for me; thanks for the encouragement.
Lyn,
It really is quite amazing to see what grows here. The flower is a poppy. Later this month, the desert will be carpeted with them in some areas.
Linda,
You must not have been logged in; I clicked on your name, and nothing happened. The desert is lovely, isn't it? It just takes some getting used to.
Here's a photo from last March, just for you. :)

Mike, beautiful photos...can't believe how close you're standing to the edge of the cliff! You're right though. Although in many ways you can see more from the top, getting down close and personal is where it's at. ;-)
Hi Mike - What a beautiful analogy to go along with the beauty you've captured in your photographs. I've wanted to catch the spring blooms in the desert one time - my goal used to be the Southern California deserts, Anza Borrego area. Your Tucson area looks stunning, too.
Mike, seeing the desert in bloom is something that everyone should experience.
Thank you for the hard work with my transaction.
Mike, I really like the high desert. And, you are right about there are opportunities. Congrats on the 300K milestone. You need to join the platinum group...

Mike:
All of us can use a daily dose of inspiration...now more so that ever. Cheers and best wishes.
Goes to show you that what we think is dead and lifeless hold wonders. Why are the flowers just for Fran? Great thoughts!
What an awesome perspective Mike - even in the barren desert there is life and opportunity. We should all put this in context of our daily lives, no matter how we're feeling that day, there is always hope and yes, often times it takes some work and sheer determination to get where we need to be but if there's a will, there's a way.
I hope you're enjoying all the beauty that the desert unfolds at this time of year.
I love your California Poppy in the middle of the Arizona desert;-) I must say however, I'm a bit of a "Look Down" type of gal. Afterall, when I was about 13, I was up in the foothills with friends, looking at the gorgeous sky, when I all but stepped on a napping rattlesnake, coiled up and asleep in the meadow! It was also when I performed my first and last rendition of "Jesus Christ Super Star Walk on the Water" as well!
Thanks for the reminder that we won't likely FIND what we need, we have to LOOK for it and MAKE it happen! Thanks for subscribing to my blog, and helping me get my first gold star! Rock on!
Janna,
You're most welcome! It's my pleasure.
Myrl,
LOL! I can see it now.
Georgina,
We sure are; it's good to see you on my blog. Thanks for commenting.

You're living proof! Thanks for stopping by.
Laura,
Because he had never seen it. You can have some too. :)
Ron,
Right on!
Michael,
What's the platinum group?
Leolinda,
I got the prelim today; thanks for the referral!
Karen,
It is stunning, provided we get our December rain. It's the rain that triggers the color in March.
Teri,
You're right, and that's why you are a success!

Hey Mike - Great analogy, my friend. Floating would be a great trick, but for now, we just have to work like it all depends on us and pray like it all depends on Him.
Marlene
Marlene,
...and none of this took Him by surprise. I really get a lot of comfort out of knowing that.

Mike,
Love the photos and what a wonderful analogy! Great post Mike..thanks for sharing!
Mike,
Great analogy to illustrate what opportunities are there if we only look for them and cultivate them. :)
